Hello!
My name is Francisco José, founder of this exciting project, Hortelano Coffee Roasters , with which we want to bring specialty coffee to Huelva.
Hortelano Coffee Roasters begins to be weaved in 2021 when, after a few years abroad, experiencing the culture of specialty coffee, I return to my province, to Huelva.
But let's go back a little:
In 2016 I landed in London, after studying at the University of Huelva and without much idea of what to do, I arrived in that wonderful city in search of new adventures, learning English and enjoying the experience of living abroad once again.
At that time I didn't know much about specialty coffee, traditional coffee was treated as a delicacy. A product that many cafes crowned as the main item on their menu.
The first time I tried one of these coffees, I remember the coffee shop, with its white La Marzocco Classic machine. There I saw how the barista weighed the exact coffee beans, ground them, how he extracted the espresso with precision manually, that was a ritual!
Finally, when I tasted that cup of coffee, I saw how great things can be achieved with love and passion. That simple cup of coffee was a symphony of flavors and aromas.
I was so curious that I began to investigate specialty coffee, its quality, how to work in this world in that city, the most powerful companies; In short, how to make a living working with these coffees.
Little by little I entered the world of specialty coffee in London, improving my knowledge, my job opportunities and building a whole life around specialty coffee.
After almost 4 years of London adventure and with great experience in the quality coffee sector, I decided to go where I had heard that the best specialty coffee culture in the world was.
Specialty Coffee Culture of Melbourne
I packed my bags and arrived to the other part of the world where I found a specialty coffee culture spread throughout all the cafes and restaurants in the city, there were few corners without a specialty coffee nearby.
There I was able to enjoy the influence of many coffee professionals, from the best baristas to renowned roasters, they were willing to teach and share their knowledge, and I was hungry to learn it!
Everything was progressing, I started working for the Coffee on Cue company as a roasting and logistics assistant, learning, from this company, all the secrets about coffee, contracts, suppliers, sales, marketing.
Back home
Like all of us, 2020 hit us and changed our lives, in my case I returned to Calañas, where with my small roasting machine I started serving specialty coffee to Huelva and the province.
Specialty coffee in Huelva was very little known and it was quite difficult to find coffee fans but I still made many clients and friends who were looking to improve the quality of their coffee, have the possibility of buying coffee beans and a point to purchase Quality Products.
This gave me a vision, something I had been looking for for years, to return to Huelva with a future in my hands.
And it wasn't easy, to be able to return to Huelva I definitely first had to go out again, leave my family, friends again.
